Facebook app crashes on my iPad after updating to iOS 18.4

It is a known problem with the Facebook app. Meta uses Custom Text Fields for input instead of using the Apple supplied UITextField, which is why you only see the problem with the Facebook app. It was just a couple of months ago where black boxes were appearing over the Text Fields and a year ago they had the same problem with text inputed from the Magic Keyboard causing the app to freeze.

Meta has updated Facebook 11 times in just the last month for bug fixes and they will eventually get around to this one too. The big question is will it break something else. They don't have a very good track record with iPad development.

Are you using a Magic Keyboard on both iPads? I have this issue until I remove my Magic Keyboard and mysteriously the facebook crashes go away. There is a discussion on Reddit about this.

This was the EXACT same thing for me! Once I took the iPad off the keyboard it worked immediately. I put it back on the keyboard and facebook shut down. What a crock…😕

💯. I’ve been having this issue on my M4 iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard since 18.4 update.

For me, the Facebook iPad app crashes everytime I click on the “Photos” link and begin to scroll photos.

It's not an iPadOS glitch. Apple can't fix the code in someone else's program. The problem is with Meta. Sadly, they've shown little inclination to fix it. Fortunately, you should still be able to access FB through your browser.

My iPad was just updated today and I am having the same issue

Called Apple support they remote into my device and replicated same issue after a shut down and reinstall.

This probably is a third-party issue in with Facebook.

I recommend you call Apple support and report this issue formally so that they know that multiple users are experiencing this, and they will probably contact the third-party on our behalf

Same here, as long as my bluetooth keyboard is turned on. When I turn it off, it works (as far as FB app works at all 😉 )

This resolved my issue with FB as well! Removing the iPad from the Magic Keyboard is the key…..but what a pain! Apple you need to fix this ASAP!

Facebook uses their own custom Text Field that has been problematic. Previously users saw that there would be a block box appearing over the top of it covering up any provided text. That problem was acknowledged by Meta and fixed with an update. Recently there have been reported problems when using the Magic Keyboard as the app is not handling the keyboard events as it would when using the standard Text Field provided by Apple. Eventually they will figure that one out too, but as always there has been another bug popping up from another Meta update. You can contact them here, but support by Meta has been less than ideal.

It is the Facebook app that is broken

When I open Facebook from Google Chrome inside of iPad Pro with most recent version of OS, don’t have any issues…

Delete the app and reinstall it.
