Apple Fitness+ disconnecting from device

For the second day in a row this has happened. Both days it happened on the 2nd workout selected. First workout was fine, connected to the watch, status updated all in real time. During the 2nd workout immediately after, it started fine and was updating the stats but about halfway through the workout the stats onscreen on the Apple TV stopped updating even though the workout was still going, both on the watch (with accurate stats) and the Apple TV with progressing workout, but not the up to date stats from the Apple Watch. A few minutes later an error message popped up saying the connection to the device was lost and the workout stopped. You can't pick up or continue a workout where you left off. Has anyone else had this problem?

I also have seen that it could be an AirPods issue. I had found a way around the disconnect problem ending the workout by doing the following:

1)When the stats stop updating on the Apple TV, pause the workout on the TV and then pause the workout on the watch

2)Go to settings on the watch and turn Bluetooth off. Wait a few seconds and then turn bluetooth on.

3)Go to the workout on the watch and resume.

4)Resume the workout on the TV.

After a few seconds all of the stats from the watch and TV will be back in sync and it doesn't disconnect

However, on a longer workout I had this happen 3 times so it was annoying to constantly do this, especially at high intensity. So, I disconnected my AirPods from the Apple TV they were connected to and just put them back in the case. No more problems then. Don't know if this is a red herring, but it definitely does seem to be an AirPods/Dual Bluetooth connection conflict.

When I called Apple I pointed them to this thread and they acknowledged the 100+ people that are experiencing this issue. I suggest that you all call Apple and report the issue to expedite a fix. Not because of many voices complaining, but they gather diagnostic data that I expect will help them get to the answer quickly. For what it’s worth I did have to spend a lot of time with them, mostly on hold, before I got to the specialist that could do the diagnostics.

I heard back that there is no news, but may hear something soon. I urge each of you to report this issue with your details, not to the community board but to Apple support. I sent screen shots of the error as well as shots of the the app and when it disconnects (time codes) and was able to get up the support chain. I’m 4 hours in. So please report this. Otherwise they won’t hear. Just click Apple support/fitnesss +/setup/ then call or chat you details to support.

I feel that we need to mass Feedback Form this to Apple, and not depend on the community board to be something they pay attention to. This is obviously affecting everyone posting here, and the masses who think it's their fault and don't even get on the forum to see what's what. I am filling out the problem as Apple Watch, and including a link to this discussion.

I agree. This is definitely a hardware issue. Using the new Apple TV 4K with AirPods and Apple Watch is the only solution. I have completed a number 30 minute workouts now with the new Apple TV without any issues. I have also noticed that the heart rate is consistently connected with the new Apple TV.

The only work around using the Apple TV HD (I have MR912X/A) is air playing from the phone, with the AirPods connected to the Apple TV. This is a good work around however it is a work around and not acceptable when it is supposed to work directly from the Apple Fitness App on the TV. I am personally going to be requesting Apple upgrade my MR912X/A to the new MXH02X/A. I'm happy to pay any gap, but I purchased the MR912X/A specifically to use with Apple Fitness.

I'm having the same issue as everyone else. I'm working out with my Series 6 Apple Watch, listening with my AirPods Pro (paired with Apple TV), and watching Fitness+ on Apple TV. During the workout, my heart rate will stop updating on the upper left of the screen and soon thereafter, I get the "device connection lost" message and the work out stops. When I try to start the workout again, I have to begin at the start. My Apple Watch is only about 6-7 feet away from the Apple TV and there is a direct line of sight. Also, the software is up to date as of December 29th.

My Apple TV is connected to the internet via an ethernet cable. Tomorrow, I'll try and work out without the AirPods Pro and see if the dual bluetooth connection is the problem. I'll also try pairing the AirPods Pro to the iPhone and airplaying the workout to the Apple TV.

Just tried to link my iPad to my Apple Watch and do a 30 min exercise and cast to Apple TV. 5 mins in to the workout the device connection lost came up!!! Workout stopped and have to start again!!! Tried again to just do the work out using the iPad only linked to my watch. 30 minute workout completed with no issues. Problem must be the Apple TV which is only connected via Bluetooth to my watch and no air pods used. Come on apple this needs sorting. Banging exercise product and the hard working coach’s need to be on the big screen and not an iPad or iPhone.

I totally agree that all of the disconnections that I have experienced aren’t linked to the use of AirPods and are only when using Apple TV and the Fitness app. It tried a 30 minute workout on my iPad last night with AirPods connected and no issues!! The finger is firmly being pointed at the Apple TV connection to Apple Watch. I have a follow up call today with a senior engineer and will advise the thread of my progress. Would also love a function to be able to show the fantastic trainers some thanks and support as they are brilliant!!!!

I have this issue too. I'm using the Apple watch series 5, and the Apple TV HD. I usually also use my airpods connected to the apple TV, but this has happened to me both with and without the airpods. I have a direct line of sight with the Aplpe TV box, and am no more than 3 metres away at any time. About 25% of my workouts lose the connection with the watch. You can often see it coming as the watch stats on the TV will stop updating, but they continue on the watch screen. The most frustrating thing is that the workout just ends - there's no attempt at recovering, rewinding or picking up where you left off. In my experience trying again at that time guarantees it happening again. You have to give up for the day and try again tomorrow. This user experience is terrible.

I have tried restoring (to factory settings, not a backup) both the Apple TV and the watch, but this still occurs. I'm at a complete loss and seeing everyone else experience similar issues makes me think it must be a bug, rather than a specific configuration issue. I hope they fix this soon, or I'll have to stop using the service.
