Apple Fitness+ disconnecting from device

For the second day in a row this has happened. Both days it happened on the 2nd workout selected. First workout was fine, connected to the watch, status updated all in real time. During the 2nd workout immediately after, it started fine and was updating the stats but about halfway through the workout the stats onscreen on the Apple TV stopped updating even though the workout was still going, both on the watch (with accurate stats) and the Apple TV with progressing workout, but not the up to date stats from the Apple Watch. A few minutes later an error message popped up saying the connection to the device was lost and the workout stopped. You can't pick up or continue a workout where you left off. Has anyone else had this problem?

I also have seen that it could be an AirPods issue. I had found a way around the disconnect problem ending the workout by doing the following:

1)When the stats stop updating on the Apple TV, pause the workout on the TV and then pause the workout on the watch

2)Go to settings on the watch and turn Bluetooth off. Wait a few seconds and then turn bluetooth on.

3)Go to the workout on the watch and resume.

4)Resume the workout on the TV.

After a few seconds all of the stats from the watch and TV will be back in sync and it doesn't disconnect

However, on a longer workout I had this happen 3 times so it was annoying to constantly do this, especially at high intensity. So, I disconnected my AirPods from the Apple TV they were connected to and just put them back in the case. No more problems then. Don't know if this is a red herring, but it definitely does seem to be an AirPods/Dual Bluetooth connection conflict.

I have the same issue if I use the Airpods Pro with my Apple 6 watch and Apple 4 TV. I was using another companies wireless earbuds, Aukey, with no problems. As soon as I purchased the Airpods Pro I have continuous disconnect issues. Apple has to know about this issue, I am shocked they have not addressed the issue with a fix or workaround.

I had this happen to me during a 45 min class. at 31min mark the Apple TV errored out with Device disconnected. I am using my HomePods as the sound output . I have had about 5 successful uses of Apple fitness and this is the first failure.

Apple will need to incorporate "resume" feature in next update because starting over every time a disconnect happens is NOT an option.

Just one more person here saying that, yes, I am getting constant disconnections when using Fitness+ on Apple TV with my AirPods Pro. I have never gotten disconnected when not using the AirPods. But I am rather hearing impaired, and the AirPods are really the only reasonable way for me to be able to hear the Fitness+ trainers. Yes, the subtitles are there, but not every exercise makes it easy to be facing the TV. I can muddle through but it is not ideal. This is really an issue, and it's a little nuts that these all can't work well together. Very much hoping for a fix for this problem, or at the absolute minimum, please make it possible to resume a workout at the point where the disconnect happened. No one wants to do only the first eight minutes of the same workout over and over...

I wanted to add to this thread regarding the dual Bluetooth connection aspect. At first I thought the disconnection would happen when two Bluetooth devices were connected to the AppleTV at the same time. However, I have completed countless workouts with Apple Fitness+ on AppleTV while connected to my HomePods and it's never disconnected.

I think this adds to the fact that this may be an AirPods issue and not a broader dual Bluetooth connection problem.

I had previously posted documenting my experiences with disconnects using Fitness+ on an Apple TV, with Apple Watch and AirPods Pro. I have been fortunate in that I have not had any interrupts since upgrading to an Apple 4K 64 GB TV. I have been able to complete 45 minute treadmill workouts with only sporadic pauses at the beginning of the workout when my arms aren't moving. I did find it interesting when one user remarked about disconnecting their watch from their iPhone. My iPhone is a considerable distance from where my treadmill is (too far for Bluetooth to reach). So I wonder if this is an issue. Anyway my purpose to offer some hope for those who are struggling with the disconnects. I know how frustrating it is for that to happen and not be able to advance to where the workout stopped. And thank you to those who have taken the time to contact Apple and make them aware of this issue. The Fitness+ app has been a life saver for me as a recover from an injury this fall. Using a treadmill for mindless runs is torture, Fitness+ has made it fun.

I’m having the same problem every workout. Good for about the first 10 minutes, then it stops updating and disconnects after it can’t update for awhile. I’m using the latest ape TV, apple watch 5, and airpods Pro. All devices have been updated to the latest software and restarted. Still have the problem. This bug is making Fitness+ almost unusable. Can’t wait until they fix it!!!!!

it is a very frustrating problem. Can you please send in the complaint through the form link I inserted above in a post, so Apple gets a show of force? FYI, turning off the Bluetooth on the iPhone did work one day, and after having to wipe and repair the Watch and update to 7.4.1 I didn't have an issue yesterday. But you are right, Apple doesn't pay attention to the details anymore. I guess they're not scared of Peloton.

Good to hear. I'm not able to complete workouts even without using AirPods and turning my phone completely off. We do not have reliable internet here due to being rural (LTE link), so any network hiccup seems to stop the Fitness app in its track. I've switched to using my iPad Mini (not ideal screen size), since it at least can download the workouts beforehand and is more tolerant of the network resetting mid-stream.

I suspect we're seeing a bug manifested from multiple causations. To add insult to injury, it's inexcusable that we cannot jog fast forward or backwards through the workouts, but can only start over from the beginning. I suspect that is some sort of weird DRM scheme Apple implemented to try to prevent the videos from being pirated... good luck with that - DRM only inconveniences your real customers and doesn't stop people intent on copying (and will never be your real customers anyway).

This sure reminds me of the early days of Apple Music. Lots of technical glitches and glaring omissions. Hopefully it all gets fixed up.
