Mac air is slow and not charging

Hello, I have a problem with my MacBook. I have purchased it back in 2020 and barely used it, probably charged 2-3 times max. Then we stored it since then and recently I decided to use it again but it is terribly slow. It takes a huge time to just log in and battery is stuck at 1% and says not charging. I tried to keep it plugged in overnight but it did nothing. Could you please give me any suggestions how can I fix it?

I ran the diagnostics and it says “The battery requires service” and “There may be an issue with the System Management Controller (SMC).

Batteries chemically degrade even when not being used, and often do it faster than when they're actually being used and charged (assuming good battery practices). So your battery may well have failed, which the diagnostics seem to be confirming. Take your Mac to an Apple Store or authorized Apple service center for evaluation and a repair estimate.

As to the slowdowns, it's difficult without more details to offer much in the way of suggestions. It could be an artifact of the battery problem, or there could be other issues. I'd recommend getting the battery issue addressed first and then see where things are.

Regards.
