Siri not responding on iPhone 16 Pro Max

I have an iPhone 16 Pro Max. Go into Siri in your settings, then go into Siri responses. Then choose ‘ prefer spoken responses.’

This fixed it for me I didn’t even have to reboot.

This is what I did to make it work. Settings -> Siri -> Talk to Siri -> Press side button for Siri, turn off. This will turn the button press off and it will work handsfree.

I believe this will work, I don’t have an iPhone 16 but I would suggest updating the phone to the iOS 18.1 public update.

Did the automatic to speak responses.. rebooted and it worked for me…

Just got the 16pro max and Apple Watch, I activated Siri by pressing the side button and suddenly Siri started working when I said “hey Siri” Hope this helps.

It's now "Apple Intelligence & Siri" but you can't search Siri in settings, which is st****. It is 4th down from General in Settings.

Mine are on. It doesn’t work when the AI features are on. She ignores me and only get a colorful display waiting for me to ask something but I get no response. Turn of AI and Siri works fine.

1 Go to Settings.

2 Tap Apple Intelligence & Siri > Talk & Type to Siri, or Siri > Talk & Type to Siri.

3 Make sure "Siri" or "Hey Siri" is turned on.

Settings > Siri > Talk to Siri > check off, then “Hey Siri”. You will go through the set up prompt and it should work after that.

I also had this issue, I couldn’t get Siri to work with any voice prompts.. I disabled apple intelligence and the side button, now Siri works just fine

I just got the 16 pro a couple weeks ago and same issue since day one. Ive tried everything everyone has suggested here and the only thing that works is restarting the entire phone but that’s only a temporary fix. I use Siri for so much so it’s super annoying. Hopefully they fix it soon

I’ve had my 16 pro max for about three weeks and having this same issue. Been driving me crazy! Tried all the steps advised and nothing at all! I used this feature often. My phone is up to date with iOS 18.0.1 too. My two office mates with 16 pros are having the same problem. Haven’t checked with anyone on other devices but I’m hoping that by leaving my comment here it increases visibility for Apple on this so they see that it is a fairly widespread issue and we hopefully get a software patch for this ASAP!

This iPhone 16 plus was probably my worst iPhone decision. Siri never works! I have to erase the dictation, turn Siri off and turn it back on, do the phrases again and it’ll work for a few days or so.. its really annoying especially when you’re used to using Siri…should’ve stayed on my 11 and not updated the OS

If it were only as simple as that. For (almost) all of us, we have already been using Siri, so that setting is already turned on. Siri just stops responding after a while. And, only have one or a couple of reboots does Siri start working again.

iOS 18.x has been the buggiest software release yet because Apple is presumably devoting so many resources to Apple Intelligence, trying to play catch up when in actuality Apple Intelligence has been almost completely useless to most people. Apple needs to focus on the basics first and then worry about "extensions". They need to force employees to stop working from home and come back to the office because they are obviously not working and/or communicating with each other. These bugs are not "rare" or "unusual" bugs. This thread has 1600+ "me too", and that is for people who are frustrated enough and tech savvy enough to find this support thread.

Same issue here. Reboot fixes for like a couple hours. Siri does crazy things; at one point everything I said to siri got transcribed as "ha ha ha ha ha ha ...." I wish I was joking. Now, if if I manually activate siri, mic comes on but she doesn't transcribe anything, nor "hear" what I say. Until I reboot, then works again for a little while.

Losing this functionality on a new phone is another slap in the face from apple.

I remember when apple used to put quality above rapid feature releases. . .
