Is anyone else experiencing problems with their notes following the iOS 18 update? Until yesterday my notes app was working fine and I was able to use it like I’ve always done. Since yesterday on September 17, 2024, the app’s been completely unusable and you can’t click on your notes without the app freezing or crashing.

I had the same problem on my iPhone 11 Pro Max since yesterday when I updated to IOS 18 and the notes app appeared to be unresponsive and none of my notes would open. I had one large notes file which I desperately needed.
I tried all the solutions online and non worked. This included locking the note and applying a password. No good.
Some people suggested turning off syncing to iCloud but I never was using iCloud. I tried enabling and then disabling but that didn’t work. I tried logging out of iCloud then restarting the phone and logging back in to no avail.
I realised that even though the notes app appeared to be frozen some functionality was still working in that I was able to move the notes file to and from iCloud and between folders locally on the iPhone.
I realised that I could create a brand new test note file and this worked perfectly and would open and close and could be edited perfectly normally as long I kept away from my existing file. Having created a new file I disabled iCloud syncing and turned off 4G mobile data and clicked on my existing note and just left the app open apparently hung but after about twenty minutes it finally opened complete with all my data much to my relief.
I immediately copied all the text into an email that I sent to myself as a backup.
Problem Solved.
Notes now works fine as it did before the update. Just to be sure as I am an IT engineer I decided to delete my notes from both iPhone and iCloud and removed and reinstalled the notes app from the App Store to have a clean start recreating a new note from the data I copied out of the old file.
Everything now back to normal with no data loss but I really don’t like the new layout of IOS 18 and it’s caused a major headache with notes.

The particular Note that I wish to open, remains always frozen. Consequently, it never opens up. This has been going on ever since I updated iOS sometime in September, 2024. Even now, it’s the same. I’m not sure what will happen to all my Notes that I saved over the last so many years.
This happened to me with the 18.1.1 iOS installation. It is absolutely CRIPPLING not be to able to access Notes. The Notes feature has been my lifeline, and connection between all apple devices.
No matter what I do, I cannot open my larger Notes files.
Apple, please come up with a solution ASAP.
I’m also a big “Notes” user and can’t access my notes. I have very sensitive information that I store on Notes and constantly use it (daily) but can’t access since the last iOS 18 update. This is unacceptable. If someone can advise a work around it would be greatly appreciated. Please correct this issue as soon as possible. Thank you!
My Notes App On both iPad and iPhone have both frozen beginning 12/1/24. I have tried every fix I can think of but nothing is working. I use Notes in a daily basis and this is a huge problem for me.
People seem to have solutions for iCloud notes but I really need one for notes "On My iPad." I've got a long note that does the crashing and freezing thing, problem is it's only saved to my iPad, meaning these solutions won't help. I could theoretically fix it if I could move it to an iCloud folder, but I can't, every time I've tried both iCloud and Microsoft folders are greyed out. If anyone could provide a solution for either of these I'd be extremely grateful. I don't think Apple's gonna do anything about it considering this thread is a couple months old.
I appreciate the response but one of my problems is that I'm not currently capable of offloading it. Besides moving it to another notes folder or deleting it, all the other controls can only be accessed when the note is open. I cannot open the note without freezing and crashing the app.

@Nayelih. You have no idea how grateful I am to you. 🙏🏽 You just saved my life. My life runs on notes. I spent an hour trying to get it to work. And this is the only thing that worked. I’m almost in tears. Thank you! 🙏🏽
A few months ago I had an issue with pages my recently files kept disappearing . When I switched off the wifi and went on to the network spectrum it’s been working fine . The issue isn’t still resolved but at least I can manage it . I’ll try and see if that works for Notes . You never know … fingers crossed . 🤞
This notes thing is so aggravating. I feel like that’s just how the Google and Apple notes operate, both android and IOS platforms. Having just switched over to Apple from Android, I’ve always had this similar problem with Google Keep Notes. It is so COMPLETELY disabling as even the talk-to-text part omits my words and then the very few words that happen to be picked up do not transcribe correctly AT ALL. I am much better at expressing myself and with overall communicating through writing, and I find technology, especially talk-to-text aspect, is perfect for me. However, the original version is always the best said, and I can never reiterate it again. I also like to write lyrics and poems that randomly pop into my head, but with this aggravating Notes app, I lose both the flow and the current ideas in trying to fix even the first three words so that when I reread it, I know what the heck I even said!!! Why isn’t any other app like this? Not even the keyboards and any other app that utilizes typing lags on Apple (one of the biggest reasons that I now use Apple products). It’s driving me insane! Please fix this! Also, I really don’t like this new update. Overall, I find that the whole system is buggy on both my iPhone and my man’s iPhone, not to mention that my iPad completely crashed after installing the update!
Notes app has developed serious and irritating issues. It indents the text on its own. When a word is selected and underlined / made bold, it is automatically indented as well. Previously it indented to right and now to the left. Secondly, when I want to change a letter in a word and I tap it, the app comes up with its own senseless suggestion and sticks to it. Third, oftentimes the cursor doesn’t function as desired.
Another problem relates to Files app where sometimes it doesn’t select a text for highlight. Then I select another word and then I come back to the intended word and it works.
Should not have to. This is a reinstalled program on iPhone and part of the iOS programming that updates with their update. They are responsible for it. I paid a lot of money for this devise. I expect it to work. I should not need any go around a.

If you expect absolute perfection from any company (or person), you are going to continue to be disappointed.
Worked for me. Very weird. I wasn’t even having issues with notes from my icloud but from my local storage. I would try to delete a column or edit a note in the “on my phone” category and then ‘crash’. Not anymore thanks 👍🏼
Yes! I have scanned documents I’m trying to email and every time I open it and about to send them, the app crashes out and closes. It’s extremely frustrating when a simple task is taking an extra day to complete.
