I have a MacBook Pro running Sonoma 14.5. After filling out all the information in Settings for Wallet & Apple Pay, I am still unable to use Apple Pay at websites in Safari. When I try, a window pops up, and the Touch ID circle briefly appears then disappears. The only active button on that window is Cancel. I also have an iPhone and Apple Pay works fine there. What am I doing wrong?

The problem isn't the ability to add cards to Apple wallet but the ability to use it in Safari.
As others have said that whenever they go to use Apple Pay in Safari it'll show the Apple Pay menu but at the bottom where the touch ID circle is at the bottom it'll say 'processing' then stop without any other prompts or my having pressed on touch ID. After 30 seconds it'll error out saying that it couldn't process the transaction. This is for Apple card and my personal CCs.
since i dont use ApplePay on my mac not that often, i used the apple test facility https://applepaydemo.apple.com . This test site behaves exactly identical to the latest shops i tried to pay with Apple Pay (beside the fact, no money is transferred there ;) )
Exactly the same problem for me - 2020 iMac 3.6 GHz 10-Core Intel Core i9 - iPhone 16P Pro & Apple Watch - All running the latest & greatest operating systems - sometimes it works, more often it doesn't...been like this for years..
I can normally reproduce the problem using the Apple Pay Demo Web Site -- https://applepaydemo.apple.com/
Today it wasn't working, so I booted into safe mode -- tried the demo site and low & behold it worked...
Booted back into unsafe mode & it still works -- for how long no one knows...I'll test it every day for a little while & let you all know if it stops working...

Have you actually added a credit or debit card to the Apple Pay settings?
Does it appear as added there?

This is exactly what I'm facing. Can't upload the video, so here are a few frames to describe the problem.
Yes, I have loaded a valid Visa card in my wallet, and this appears in my settings. As I indicated, Apple Pay works fins on my iPhone, but fails to function on my Mac.
Do you have Touch ID enabled on your keyboard? Is the keyboard an Apple keyboard or third party?
Do you have any other User accounts on your Mac, including multiple accounts for yourself?
My wife also has a user account on this Mac.
Does she have Apple Pay activate on her account?
How many user accounts on your Mac? Does anyone else have Apple Pay setup on the computer?
Just one and thats my account. No one else uses it.

No. My wife does not have Apple Pay active on her account. She also does not use Apple Pay on her iPhone.
Already done without success.
M3 MacBook Air 2024 15 MacOS 14.6 (23G80).
One user. Tried the above, No go. Will probably have to take it in to Apple for them to diagnose at this point.
Did you try momentarily switch it off and then back on?
