HomePod not responding after updating to OS 17.4

After installing os 17.4 one of my HomePods is not responding. Home app shows it not responding and it’s not showing anything on its display.

I ungrouped the HomePods and deleted the faulty one from Home app. Also updated iPhone and Apple TV and tried to manually restore it by unplugging it for a minute then plugging it back and touching its display after ten seconds and nothing happens. It is totally dead, does someone has the same issue?

I’ve updated to iOS17.6 - and now have the same issue. I’ve had this issue in the past and it’s so frustrating to fix. Why does this continue to occur ? HomePods were fine before the update !

I think the HomePods maybe downloading the wrong firmware … I have four OG HomePods and three minis … after updating to 17.4 one OG is now totally unresponsive, two OG’s are fine and one OG is stuck configuring … two of the minis are fine and one mini is stuck configuring. The two stuck configuring are both showing the software as tvOS 17.4 whereas all of the HomePods that are fine are all showing OS 17.4 … anyone else notice the same thing? Does anyone know how to force a roll back and correct update … I’d like to try and save the two configuring HomePods if possible!

As a last resort, try a reset after leaving the OG Homepod unplugged for a couple of weeks. An earlier thread (which seems to have vanished from Discussions) had that advice - the poster decided to try again after the Homepod had been put away and it worked.

Also note my suggestion above to temporarily stop using the Homepod(s) as default audio output for an Apple TV before updating software (too late for dead Homepods but worth considering for the living ones!)

The other issue that arose from recent updates is that, for Homepods set as default output for Apple TVs, some users got a message that they needed to accept terms and conditions in order to request music from Homepod Siri. It turns out that this is done via the Apple TV. Every user needs to switch to their account on Apple TV and open the Music app. This enables them to request music from Homepod Siri.

hey, i updated my HomePod mini to HomePod OS 18 and now i can’t see my alarms or timers and the temperature/humidity sensors were unavailable after the update, after i restarted my HomePod mini it won’t recalibrate, before the update it was perfect after, i can’t use it as i like, i can control alarms and timers by asking Siri but dealing with 5 alarms or more sometimes is ok at first but WAY easier on my iPhone.

it says that the alarms and timers are only available when the HomePod and my iPhone are on the same WiFi. (They are) and the temperature/humidity sensors are just calibrating for the past 20-30 minutes.

i have an iPhone X on iOS 16.7.10 the latest iOS available for now (date:25/09/2024)/(US date:09/25/2024) so i’m not resetting my HomePod in case i can’t reconnect

with my outdated iPhone. Imma wait until i have a new phone and i will say if anything changed with a new iOS 16 update or when i’ll get a new iPhone.

The names of the sensors are in French that’s why it’s weirdly written.

Yes, one of my two died. I was just about to order the bigger Homepod and I am so relieved that I didn’t if this is all the better the quality control is for Apple’s speakers. **** I went out and bought Harman Kardon Soundsticks 4 which is a 2.1 sound system that comes with a proper subwoofer that pushes out serious bass and two satellite (but wired) speakers that plug into the subwoofer. They are absolutely amazing. I cannot believe the sound they put out. Such clarity, power and you can also hook up to them using an AUX cable as well.

I knew going in that the Homepod Minis were gonna be a small pair of speakers with some creative cone and bass designs to push out louder sound than something so small should be able to, but they’ve both been a pain in my side since about six months after I bought them. I have reviewed and used (and bought) a lot of speakers over the years, and the HK Soundsticks 4 are the first pair to flabbergast me the moment I turned them on. They are far and away better than the Amazon Echo Studio, Amazon Echo 4th version (2 of them + the Amazon Echo Subwoofer) as well as two Sonos 1 with sub. Plus, I only paid $299 for them.

I’m gonna continue to try to repair them my mini’s, as they work well with my apple TV, we’ll see what happens,

Sadly the update is being *forced*.

Even though I have turned off the auto-update setting in the Home app, anytime I plug a HomePod back in after unplugging it, the update begins *automatically* and I have no way of stopping it in the app.

I have about 5 currently unplugged and too afraid to plug them in, in case they all die from the forced update.

Any way around the forced automatic update when plugging them back in?

HomePod Mini Update to 17.6 bricked all my pods.

I unplugged them from the power brick, then connected to my iMac. Used the Finder to locate the pod and it offered to "restore". Did that for each of my pods and now they all work.

Not fun to have to do this for a simple software update, especially after the iPod Pro M4 iPadOS fiasco.

After updating my iPhone 15 plus to iOS 18, my HomePod mini stopped working. I’ve left it unplugged for a few days, I tried to reset the HomePod, and neither of those options worked. Yesterday, I decided to plug it into my MacBook Air, and I chose the option to update and restore the HomePod. I was very hopeful that this would solve the issue but my HomePod still will not connect. It’s so frustrating, seeing as I bought it barely a year ago!
