I have personal and work photos and documents on my iPhone and Macbook but I would like to keep my personal stuff separate from my work stuff as my iCloud storage gets full very easily. Is it possible to be able to store personal and work things separately?

You can have two IDs but you cannot have two IDs signed into one device at the same time on a mobile device. You can log out of one and log into another but for your purposes this won't work easily. To keep them separate you would have to erase your device between IDs.
On a computer it is a bit easier but you have to set up a second user account for the second ID and swap between them.
