Tapping on attachment in email

When I tap an attachment in email it won't open...why

Tapping is insufficient. Touch and hold the attachment.

Recent attachments won’t open in iOS mail search Previously in iOS mail, tapping on the search bar would show recent searches and also recently received document attachments. Especially handy to check a weekly roster. Since upgrading to iOS 17, the recent attachments still show but can’t be opened or interacted with in any way. The email account is a gmail one but was working fine before iOS 17. Anyone else have the same issue or aware of a fix?

Why are animated gifs not showing up inline in iOS mail - now show 'click to download'? It seems now when someone sends me an email with an animated gif inline (say, an animated email signature) that all of a sudden it shows in mail on my iphone as 'click to download' instead of automatically loading & displaying the gif. (This is a new problem!) Any idea how to get gifs to load automatically?
