My screen went totally dark. I can tell the phone is on, because my husband called it and it rang. How can I fix this... I tried to plug into computer to reset, but it is still black screen..

Okay so I have this same issue on my iPhone X but the problem is the apple doesn't show up so there is no opportunity to slide the power off. Even after hitting the volume up, down then side for a long time. The phone didn't drop or anything so not sure what is up but it makes noises and Siri works but no screen. What can I try next?
