Apple Fitness+ disconnecting from device

For the second day in a row this has happened. Both days it happened on the 2nd workout selected. First workout was fine, connected to the watch, status updated all in real time. During the 2nd workout immediately after, it started fine and was updating the stats but about halfway through the workout the stats onscreen on the Apple TV stopped updating even though the workout was still going, both on the watch (with accurate stats) and the Apple TV with progressing workout, but not the up to date stats from the Apple Watch. A few minutes later an error message popped up saying the connection to the device was lost and the workout stopped. You can't pick up or continue a workout where you left off. Has anyone else had this problem?

I also have seen that it could be an AirPods issue. I had found a way around the disconnect problem ending the workout by doing the following:

1)When the stats stop updating on the Apple TV, pause the workout on the TV and then pause the workout on the watch

2)Go to settings on the watch and turn Bluetooth off. Wait a few seconds and then turn bluetooth on.

3)Go to the workout on the watch and resume.

4)Resume the workout on the TV.

After a few seconds all of the stats from the watch and TV will be back in sync and it doesn't disconnect

However, on a longer workout I had this happen 3 times so it was annoying to constantly do this, especially at high intensity. So, I disconnected my AirPods from the Apple TV they were connected to and just put them back in the case. No more problems then. Don't know if this is a red herring, but it definitely does seem to be an AirPods/Dual Bluetooth connection conflict.

I’ve also experienced this with my workout while trying to use AirPod Pro and my watch. It’s been months since the issue was reported. You would think Apple should have fixed the issue by now. It’s a wonderful product with the ability to sync seamlessly if someone can fix the issue. I won’t be paying for Fitness+ until it can be fixed.

I agree as well that it is a platform with high potentials. My speculation of this design (“interrupt the workout upon a disconnection”) is that they plan to explore closed-loop workouts, such as the ones that maintain specific target heart rates. I think this is challenging given the difficulties of maintaining constant RF link uninterrupted (I had to bring the ATV in line of sight with the watch, see above), but let’s see how Apple is planning to solve the problem.

Thanks for the feedback! The thing that stinks about air playing from the phone to the TV is I don’t get to see my watch statistics on the screen (have to look at my watch)….maybe I’m doing something wrong🤷🏻‍♂️ It’s not the worst, but I like it better on the screen. I did complete many workouts using different Bluetooth earbuds, never had this problem until I started using Airpods. Are you just going to call Apple support to upgrade your Apple TV?

I don't understand why I pay $30 a month for Apple Fitness, when the last three sessions on Apple TV/watch/airpods have disconnected. I really don't. And the most frustrating part of this is, Apple knows. The Apple experience has become a kind of silent gaslighting, one in which the company and its devs stay quiet while paying customers as beta testers for unacknowledged gaps in their vertical integration model. That's the long and short of it. Strategic silence from The "Logan's Run" donut in Cupertino, sitting on future-proofed earthquake shocks; all the while Apple can't nail the basics, and the lawyers counsel managment to stay mum. I understand home connectivity is tricky. It's the disingenous lack of acknowledgment that rankles.
