I have 2 mac laptops. 1 my wife uses. we are on the same network. After the last OS update, I did something where now everything I put on my desktop appears on hers and vice versa. I need to stop sharing desktop documents. I read about Manage Sync Settings in iCloud, but I cannot find that setting in system settings or anywhere. . Please help.

It sounds as if you are sharing an Apple ID – and have also turned on the feature to put your Desktop & Documents folders in iCloud.
You can turn off the Desktop & Documents features but as long as you continue to use the same Apple ID you will be sharing data in other ways. E.g., all of the files that either of you puts in iCloud Drive will go to a common area, visible to both of you, and if you are both using iCloud Photos, all of your photos and her photos will be in a single shared iCloud library that will be replicated on both Macs.
