Error with icloud drive desktop sharing

Hi all, I accidentally set my desktop sharing to icloud drive, now it's uploading quite a few gb of files, if I try to disable it it removes all folders from my desktop. Do you know how to disable desktop sharing without making everything disappear from the desktop?

Shared folder disappeared from all devices Both I and my wife have iCloud accounts. I created a folder in my account and shared it with her email address/account. She has several Apple devices and normally the shared folder shows up under iCloud Drive (path iCloud Drive/Shared). Everything has always worked until yesterday. Yesterday, the "iCloud Drive/Shared" folder disappeared from ALL her devices. I still see it in my iCloud Drive, with all its contents, and it still shows as being shared with her. Initially it looked like the folder was completely gone, and this highly troubling regarding the reliability of iCloud Drive. Since on my end iCloud Drive still thinks the folder is shared, I can't re-share it, and am hesitant to take any action lest the folder disappear for good. I'm making a full backup of the 12GB in a local folder on my computer, but given that only about 10% is locally cached this is going to take 7-8 hours. How do I recover from this.

saving to desktop without pesky iCloud interference Just got a new laptop with Ventura and just like that my local files are all saving to iCloud as default. And, of course, iCloud is full after hardly any time at all and I need to purchase more storage, which I won't do because I already have other cloud storage and don't want to splinter yet again. HELP!! Is there a way to stop auto saving to iCloud without Apple's ridiculous default that desktop files and docs disappear when the sync option is turned off?

Turn off desktop and documents.

your old desktop and documents folder are kept in the iCloud Drive folder and replaced with new desktop and documents. You can then just move files from the iCloud Drive folders back to the intended locations.
