Why are my AirPods connecting to my old Apple ID that I don't use?

Hi there,

My airpods are connected to my old work Apple ID that I no longer have access to.

I'm not even sure how they ended up associated with that ID but here we are! What I don't understand is I wiped and deleted the old AppleID when I left my job, I went through the whole process of unlinking and wiping the ID and requesting it's deletion by Apple.

The phone that was associated with it was also completely wiped down.

I do not have access to this ID anymore (as mentioned, it doesn't even exist) so how to I re-associate my airpods with my personal ID?

Any help would be appreciated!

You did not remove the AirPods from your old account prior to having the account deleted.

The only way past this is going to be to provide Apple with the original proof of purchase for them.

They became linked to your work ID because a device signed into that account was the first one you paired them with.

Thank you for the response, that is appreciated but the tone is less than helpful. The work ID was absolutely not the first account I paired the AirPods with as I started at the company 12 months after getting my AirPods and the connection with that account seems to have only happened in the last few months. What department would I contact at Apple to get them unlinked. I have owned these AirPods for 4 years and they were a gift so I don’t have the proof of purchase.
