Old AirPods Showed Up Suddenly in iCloud devices

I noticed today that my old pair of airpods (1st gen) were suddenly visible in the list of icloud devices on my iphone and ipad, as well as on icloud.com. I use Airpod Pros now. However, I still own that original pair of airpods but I removed them from iCloud awhile back. I now use them with another, non-Apple device. When I open the airpods case next to my ipad or iphone, it does not recognize them, just as if they were a new pair of airpods or belonged to someone else. But they still show up in the list of devices in my account. I’ve tried removing them from the list on my iphone and from the web after logging in to icloud there, but that doesn’t work. They are still showing up. Any ideas what’s going on?

I should add that the old Airpods showed up despite not using them for nearly two weeks. They’ve been sitting unused in their case.

Hey alex_bach,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We recommend reviewing and following the steps in this article to confirm the AirPods were completely removed: If an item or device is connected to another Apple ID.

If you continue to have the issue, resetting the AriPods may resolve the issue. After the AirPods are reset, the location of the AirPods will not longer be provided to the previous owner(you). To reset, follow the steps below or here: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro.

1. Put your AirPods in their charging case, and close the lid.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Open the lid of your charging case, and put your AirPods in your ears.
4. Go to Settings > Bluetooth. Or go to Settings > [your AirPods].
• If your AirPods appear there as connected, tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods, tap Forget This Device, then tap again to confirm.
• If your AirPods don't appear there, continue to the next step.
5. Put your AirPods in their charging case, and keep the lid open.
6. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber, then white.*
7. Reconnect your AirPods: With your AirPods in their charging case and the lid open, place your AirPods close to your iPhone or iPad. Follow the steps on your device's screen.

AirPods can be associated with one Apple ID. If you want to use AirPods (3rd generation) or AirPods Pro (1st or 2nd generation) that someone else has used, they first need to remove the AirPods from their Apple ID.

Hope this helps. Take care.
