Facebook app crashes on my iPad after updating to iOS 18.4

💥💥 I have an IPad Pro with 18.4.1 and since the last update my Facebook App is crashing non-stop any time I try to use the search function. I tried deleting the app and its data then powering down my ipad and powering back up and reinstalling the Facebook app and even after three times doing all this there is no improvement. Facebook is running fine on my iPhone 15 Pro and on my other iPad Pro with an older O.S. But this is the iPad I use the most because it has the Magic Keyboard. I need to have access to Facebook so this is unacceptable and I hope Apple and/or Meta gets it squared away promptly💥💥

One of Meta’s almost daily updates (“to make the app better for you” 😉) seems to have introduced a bug which makes Facebook crash - for me, usually when I use the search feature. The issue arose some time after I updated to iPadOS18.4.

Same thing is happening to me. I’ve reinstalled FB app and it does not solve the issue.

Deleting, reinstalling, restarting, clearing Facebook history are all just temporary fixes. It keeps happening.

Are you using a Magic Keyboard on both iPads? I have this issue until I remove my Magic Keyboard and mysteriously the facebook crashes go away. There is a discussion on Reddit about this.

This was the EXACT same thing for me! Once I took the iPad off the keyboard it worked immediately. I put it back on the keyboard and facebook shut down. What a crock…😕

Access FB using a browser.

Facebook uses their own custom Text Field that has been problematic. Previously users saw that there would be a block box appearing over the top of it covering up any provided text. That problem was acknowledged by Meta and fixed with an update. Recently there have been reported problems when using the Magic Keyboard as the app is not handling the keyboard events as it would when using the standard Text Field provided by Apple. Eventually they will figure that one out too, but as always there has been another bug popping up from another Meta update. You can contact them here, but support by Meta has been less than ideal.

Same thing happening to me since updating to IOS 18.4. Really annoying, but a bit of a relief to know it’s happening to others and not just a fault my end. I have just installed the latest facebook update and was hoping it would be fixed, but still doing it. Argh 😬

This is frustratingly still happening for me.

I just went to the Apple App store and lowered my review of their Facebook app to 1 star, along with what has been happening and that rebooting my I-Pad pro does nothing to stop this, nor, deleting and reloading the app.

I’m hoping apple and facebook see the review. If we all so this and the rating goes down, hopefully they will repair the app.

Apple can't fix Meta's bad programming. And, sadly, Meta seems uninterested or unable to fix it.

Meta hasn't seemed to be able to get the FB app on the iPad to work reliably for well over a year. I suggest you use a browser until they figure it out.

It's not an iPadOS glitch. Apple can't fix the code in someone else's program. The problem is with Meta. Sadly, they've shown little inclination to fix it. Fortunately, you should still be able to access FB through your browser.
