Microphone not working on Facetime

So I have a Mac Mini with M2 Pro with Mac OS 15 (Sequoia) and an external Dell Monitor C2722DE with in build webcam, microphone and speakers. I can do video calls with Signal app without problems. However when I try to do a video call using Facetime the other side cannot hear me. So it cannot be a problem with my hardware or drivers, it must be a problem specific to Facetime. It seems like the microphone is switched off for Facetime. Does anyone have an idea what could be the issue here?

So I was able to confirm that the microphone worked correctly also when recording a video in Photo Booth. However I noticed, that the volume of the audio was quite low in the recording with Photo Booth. So I went to System Settings -> Sound -> Input and increased the input volume to maximum.

After doing that the microphone was suddenly working in Facetime!

I assume Facetime needs a stronger input signal to work correctly. Maybe if your input volume is too low, the noise filter of Facetime will just suppress the signal completely, giving the impression as if the microphone is not working at all.
