Why can't I redownload all of my purchased songs from iTunes?

when I go to try and redownload purchased music from iTunes the download album button seems to only download one song at a time. Even try the download all buttons are not downloading everything. Not sure when this started but it is making it difficult to redownload music. I have also noticed when I do get an album downloaded by doing each song the songs are not staying together as one album even if they are all from the same album. Lots of oddness.
