Hearing test not available in Australia after iOS update this morning

Updated to 18.1 this morning. I read the fine print—Australia is *not* in the list of countries where Hearing Test is available. Very disappointing. I was looking forward to using iPods Pro 2 for hearing assistance.

Just bought my airpods pro this morning for just this feature. Get home and find it’s not available in Australia. Guess how I feel about this issue. Not happy.

Re: Why was Australia not included in the release?

We are all Apple users like yourself in the community, so no-one here knows for sure. Seems only some countries marketing and health authorities have given their approval, as the FDA has done in America.

Re: When Australian’s be given access.

As Apple users, like yourself, we have no way of knowing for sure.

Various health products can not be shipped to Australia from US because of Australia's regulations.

Hi. Found this article:

Heavily marketed hearing health features for Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 earphones are now the latest innovations from the technology giant which have launched in the United States but remain unavailable in Australia due to a lack of regulatory approval.

Announced in September and released on 28 October, the hearing health features on Apple’s $399 AirPods Pro 2 — including a hearing test and a clinical-grade hearing aid capability — are available in dozens of countries, including New Zealand.

The features, which Apple has touted as “groundbreaking”, are yet to receive regulatory approval from Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

Re: "Hearing test not available in Australia after iOS update this morning"

Yes, I see Australia is not listed in Apple's article: AirPods Pro 2 - Hearing Health Feature Availability - Apple

Wondering whether or not marketing and Health Authorities in Australia are still looking into authorization.

___________________________________________________________

Apple's September 9, 2024 Press Release about new health features

says:

"The Hearing Test and Hearing Aid features are expected to receive marketing authorization from global health authorities soon, and will be available this fall in more than 100 countries and regions, including the U.S., Germany, and Japan.3"

and

3 "The Hearing Test and Hearing Aid features are expected to be available fall 2024. The Hearing Aid feature is pending marketing authorization from the FDA and other global health authorities. The Hearing Test and Hearing Aid features will be supported on AirPods Pro 2 with the latest firmware paired with a compatible iPhone or iPad with iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 and later, and is intended for people 18 years or older. The Hearing Aid feature is intended for people with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss".

USA Fall 2024:  Starts on Sunday, September 22 and ends on Saturday, December 21

As community members, like yourself, we have no way of checking whether or not the hearing-test availability is complete, or whether other countries may be included in time.

All the best :-)

Seems Apple Support's article dated September 2024 (link below) explains step-by-step how to prepare, and then "Use your audiogram data from the Health app"

If Apple's method isn't working for you, you might want to send feedback to Apple, They will likely not reply, yet your feedback will reach those who can make changes if others are also having a similar issue: Feedback - iPhone - Apple

It will do no good to contact Apple. As I mentioned before, It's not Apple who approves where the hearing aid feature will be allowed. It is up to each country. Contact the government agency that approves medical devices.
