Logging into 2017 iMac with external startup SSD crashes and then stabilizes

I'm using a 1TB ssd as my boot disk to speed up performance on a 2017 iMac. I'm using a WD Black SN770 NVMe SSD enclosed in a fan cooled Orico M.2 enclosure. Running Ventura 13.7.


When I first boot up, things work fine for about 30 sec, and then I get a hard crash that requires a power button restart. After that, things seem to work fine. Console gives me this crash report:

There's more, but I don't really know how to interpret it so I left it off.


Any ideas as to what might be going on?

I haven't tried a safe boot yet to see if that changes things.

I'd uninstall Nord for certain

Have you run Disk Utility's Disk First Aid on all connected drives?


In Disk Utility>View, select Show all Devices, highlight the top left entry.


Run Disk First Aid on all items in the left panel, from top down.



Are you running any VPN, Anti-Virus, or Cleaning apps?


We need to see what all is running, a report from this will not display any personal info...

Hi, thanks for the info.

I've run First Aid on all disks from recovery (it seemed like the right way to do it). All was well.


I have Nord VPN installed, but it's not running on startup, although some background processes may boot up.

I do have Little Snitch network monitor running at startup.


I purchased Etrecheck... nice app, thanks for the heads up.

I'm including the full report via the additional text link. I hope there's something in there that stands out.
