Multiple birthdays on Calendar and shared calendars created by the Occasions app.

For each birthday, I have dozens of repeated birthdays for each person showing on the all-day section of Calendar across devices, created by the Occasions app. My wife and I share calendars both from Mac and Google and she is receiving thousand and thousands of notifications of birthdays and changes to said birthdays because of my attempts to turn them off.

This comment is in the App Store, with the answer from the developer. I hope this helps.

Bug

Each event is displayed on the calendar 8-9 times. How to solve this problem?

Answer

We're sorry you're running into issues. This stems from only giving Occasions 'Add Only' access when iOS 17 prompted for access. To resolve these issues, please:

In the Settings app, go to Privacy & Security > Calendars > Occasions, and make sure that Occasions has Full Access.

Then, go to Occasions > Settings > Help > Diagnostics, and select Remove Calendar Events.

Without seeing your screen I can only offer generic advice.

  • Stop sharing this calendar, to avoid propagating the repeated events further (probably too late anyway). If on the other hand, it's a calendar shared by another user, unsubscribe from it and apply these recipes to the source.
  • Try to find the very first appearance of any given event, or go back as far as you can, and delete the repetition rule. This could already clear a lot of subsequent events.
  • If the calendar contains nothing else than undesirable events, you can delete it altogether. If it contains only a few unrelated events that you want to keep, edit them manually to move them to another calendar until you can safely delete the calendar containing the undesirable events.

In the future, if you want some application to add events on its own, create a different calendar to be used by that application only. If something goes wrong you can get rid of it easily.

Good luck. If you need more help post pictures of useful pieces of information. Press Shift-Command-5, frame a meaningful area, look in the options where the picture file will be saved (desktop by default), and press Enter. Add to the discussion with the second-last icon (mountain and moon) at the bottom of this text field.

Dear Recycleur,

Thank you for your kind help.

I have successfully removed Birthdays from my Calendar. However, how can remove the thousands of notifications/multiple repeated birthdays on my wife’s Family shared Calendar and/or remove all birthday notifications showing on her Calendar? This is almost generating a marriage issue!

Regards,

Daniel
