Handoff working but not SMS messages, especially for 2FA

Handoff is working between all my Apple devices except in one department. In the past if I had an incoming 2FA text message on my iPhone I could enter this immediately on the Mac. Now that connection appears to have broken. What steps do I need to take to fix this?

It sounds like you're not receiving a verification code via text while using Handoff on your Mac, is that right?


Are you attempting to sign in with your Apple ID and not seeing the text message? If so, you can also obtain a verification code from your trusted device to sign in with your Apple ID as outlined here: Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication - Apple Support

"From your Mac

  1. Go to Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Apple ID.
  2. Click Password & Security > Get Verification Code."


Are you still receiving texts to your iPhone but not on your Mac?
