Bought a new iMac24 yesterday, data transfer cable that came with it will not connect to my 2014 iMac with old USB ports. What do I need? I cannot transfer over wifi, and my back up hard drive has only the old USB plug-in which is incompatible with the new one. I have been unable Can you help?

Congrats on the new iMac.

The cable that came with it is not for interconnecting two computers. It's a charge cable for the keyboard and the mouse. It's also a sync/charge cable for iPad and iPhone.

You need a USB-C to USB adapter for the external drive to connect to your new Mac.

You could use an ethernet cable between the two computers as well, assuming your new iMac is not the base model with no ethernet. Otherwise, the ethernet port of the new iMac will be found on the power adapter.
