What do I do if the port is a different size? I’m trying to transfer files from my old 2015 MacBook Air to my new one.

I’m trying to transfer information from my old 2015 MacBook Air using the Seagate back up plus drive to my new one and the port size is different. Do I have to purchase an adapter?

Different size or different type? If the devices ports aren't the same, yes you need an adapter.
