Combining Apple IDs

I have had the issue for a long time where I have 2 Apple IDs. I just dealt with it but now I want to finally be able to combine them if possible. I have been with Apple for a long time, back when your Apple ID was just a user name. Under this ID I purchased a lot of music and some apps. Then several years later your Apple ID had to be an email address. So I now have some devices using my iCloud Apple ID for purchases, apps, and subs, and other devices still using my original Apple ID that is not an email so that I can access my music and other app purchases. How can I move everything over to my newer iCloud ID and be able to access everything there and have all my devices signed in the same way for purchases, apps, and subs?

Hello Erin-Renee,

Merging Apple accounts (IDs) or transferring data is not officially supported, nor can it be done easily or completely. Read the links below for things you may need to do to transfer as much as is possible.

Look into using Family Sharing to continue to be able to use items purchased with one Apple ID with other Apple IDs.

Read How to use Shared Albums in Photos on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac - Apple Support about about how to share photos.

If you have signed into the ID on two devices then fortunately when you sign out of one ID and sign in with a different one it asks you in most cases if you wish to retain the data from it on your device. Say yes and then delete individual items you do not want.

Sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, or Mac --> Sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, or Mac - Apple Support

If another Apple ID is signed in you may need to enter the password for that ID to sign out of that ID first.

I'll just add that it sounds like you are in an unusual situation. I didn't even know that Apple IDs would be just names way back when (and my ID dates from 2004). If it is truly the case that you were obliged to create a second account then you may be able to ask Apple to help you with this.

If you don't see one that handles your issue then keep experimenting with selections until you reach one that gets you a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.
