Birthdays showing as ‘busy’

Suddenly birthdays are showing up in my calendar as ‘busy’ which means I appear to be very unavailable in the scheduling app I use. I like having the notifications in my calendar, but cannot find an option to default these to ‘free’ instead of ‘busy’. The default used to be ‘free’.

Calendar Events Notification I have entered hundreds of people's birthdays on my calendar. What I have noticed is that the 'alert' that is set to come up for the yearly recurring events is set to notify me the day before (which is the default, and I think is a bit stupid for a yearly event)... However, is there a quick an easy way to edit/change all of those recurring events to notify me the day of the event rather than the day before? Opening each of these and changing them is going to be really cumbersome.

why do I get birthday alerts DAY BEFORE when Ventura and OSx settings are ON DAY OF EVENT I am really frustrated because I get calendar alerts for birthdays on THE DAY BEFORE THE EVENT when the settings on both the calendar app on Ventura and on the IOS 16,3,1 are set to "on day of event'". this is a problem because I then always forget to wish on day of event while the day before does not really make sense to wish happy birthday.ca

Birthdays and Google Calendar API recent changes I've used Google account with Calendar for years and there has always been a separate birthdays' calendar that could be turned off. Now, however, Apple Calendar is showing those birthdays in the main calendar. Searching here and there, I've found that birthdays in Google Calendar are now stored on the main ('primary') calendar with a special 'birthday' flag (check https://developers.google.com/calendar/docs/release-notes?authuser=0#November_19_2024) Since the events are now stored on the primary calendar any software (included Apple Calendar) that doesn't hide events on the primary calendar with the "birthday" eventType will show duplicates if both the primary and birthday calendars are enabled. The birthday events on the Calendar are fetched from the list of Contacts and are automatically set as "All Day" but it does not show as busy.

It would be better if you can please re-post with a screenshot, in order to understand the phenomenon better. Images/pictures speak louder than words.
