Has "Get Verification Code" been moved or deprecated? - 2 factor authentication

I need to be able to manually generate an authentication code so I can log into my Apple TV device, but the "Get Verification Code" feature seems to have been removed from the Passwords & Security screen. I'm on iOS 26.1, but I see references on Reddit from October 2025 as well.

Honestly, it looks like it was intentionally deprecated. Apple's middle finger to users of older Apple devices and third party devices.

Yeah the option used to exist there, and the support document used to have a section for it, but it has since been removed from both places.

Seems it's no longer supported.

If you have an older device logged in to your Apple Account that is running early versions of iOS like iOS 16 or 17, the option should still be there.

That only works if the device you are using supported 2 factor authentication out of the box. My Apple TV device was purchased just before that and does not support 2 factor authentication natively, requiring a workaround that utilized manual creation of the authentication code on another trusted device. Apparently now my device is just e-waste, even though it works perfectly otherwise.

Yes, it used to be an option in Settings where any trusted device could self-generate a verification code for another device joining onto the same Apple Account.

It was well-described in the KB as well.

Apple indeed seems to have deprecated that option; presumably as part of their ongoing efforts to “tighten-up” security.

FWIW, it was already “not available” for those using Hardware Security Keys for their Apple Account.

Indeed it IS.

Screenshot below is of an iPhone 6s running the “most current version” of iOS 15 today.

I always thought it was a useful feature as it allowed a user to generate a Verification Code even when his/her device was completely disconnected from any network. (i.e. in total “radio silence”)
