AirPods connect to iPhone but not Mac

Ever since that awesome update adding Liquid Glass (now sure how anyone got along without this in the past) my AirPods will no longer connect to my Mac. They connect to my iPhone. If I remove from iPhone and discover again, they will show up on my Mac however will not connect. AirPods will connect to iPhone but not my Mac, I followed the instructions from some Mac community string however it doesn't help and Mac doesn't have a command center.

If anyone has a solution, I would be grateful if you shared.

I appreciate the reply - I not only disconnected, I made sure all other potential blue tooth enabled devices were either not in the area or turned off.

I'm not sure if the issue is with the AirPods or blue tooth on my Mac as that is no longer consistent connecting to my DAC - I think this can be resolved with hard wire but still frustrating with the recent upgrade - I've read where others are having similar issues. I hope apple comes out with a fix update soon.
