Desktop requires passcode to enable Touch ID but I cannot remember the passcode

My Macbook shows the message “Your passcode is required to enable Touch ID,” but I can’t remember the passcode. I don’t use this Apple ID on any other device, so I’m not sure what to do.

I tried resetting the Apple ID password using another device signed in with a different Apple ID, but I still can’t access it, and there’s no “Forgot Passcode” option.

If you have forgotten your Mac login password; after trying three attempts, you should find an option to reset your password with your Apple Account.

From there, you simply follow the prompts and your Mac should simply restart like normal.

NOTE: You may need to sign back into iCloud and other services after the successful login.
