  • USB-C charger does not affect Apple Pencil Pro battery life
  • Fast draining is usually caused by Find My, wake sensors, or a Bluetooth sleep bug
  • Try:
  • ✔ Hard reset Pencil
  • ✔ Remove Find My tracking
  • ✔ Clean magnetic rail
  • ✔ Leave Pencil unattached overnight
  • ✔ Update firmware

Thank you for the additional information. This information helps greatly.

Have you tried turning-off haptic feedback for your Pencil Pro? This feature, when enabled, will considerably increase battery usage.

Don't forget, simply docking the Pencil with the host iPad to charge for 15-30 seconds will provide sufficient charge for about 30 minutes of active use. Allowing the Pencil to charge whenever it not being actively used will keep the Pencil optimally charged and ready for use.

My pencil is the Apple Pencil Pro.
My question is: Is there a difference in battery life between the Apple Pencil Pro and the Apple Pencil USB-C?
Note: I disabled the Find My app and the pencil's features.

I don't recall seeing a side-by-side comparison of battery performance between models of Apple Pencil. However, the Apple Pencil Pro offers additional functionality such as integration with Find My) which, inevitably, will draw more power than other models.

Consider that the Apple Pencil is designed to re-charge very quickly when docked with the host iPad. Additionally, it is generally recommended that the Apple Pencil Pro is docked with the host iPad whenever it us not being actively used - as this ensures that the Pencil's battery is optimally charged and available for immediate use whenever it is needed. By comparison, the much simpler USB-C Pencil can only be charged and the battery maintained by remembering to connect the Pencil via its charging cable to a source power.

Inductive charging provided a mechanism to keep the Pencil always ready for use. In the perhaps unlikely event of continuous use fully draining the Pencil battery, it can be quickly and easily docked for just a few moments to add significant charge before resuming activity.

In practice, if you always dock the Pencil with the iPad whenever not actively using the Pencil, it os very unlikely that the Pencil battery will ever be exhausted.

You need a better AI-source for your answer, or an improved understanding of what can or can't be done with an Apple Pencil...

Q. How do you "hard reset" an Apple Pencil?

There isn't a method to "hard reset" the Pencil hardware.

Q. How do you manually "update" a Pencil's firmware?

There isn't a method to manually update an Apple Pencil's firmware. Pencil firmware is updated automatically, by the iPad, when the Pencil has been successfully paired with the host iPad.

The OP also makes reference to a USB-C Pencil. This type of Pencil doesn't use inductive charging when magneticly docked with the host iPad. A USB-C Pencil can only be charged using the Pencil's USB-C port - and as such, for a USB-C Pencil (if applicable), "cleaning the magnetic rail" will have no effect whatsoever.

Please clarify. Are you using a USB-C Pencil, or an Apple Pencil Pro?

Over what timescale is the Pencil with which you are having difficulty discharging?

But that would require actual knowledge if that is still a valuable resource here. It has somehow been lost lately in the posts by those type of users. Luckily you are here to make some sense out of it.
