Left AirPod Pro 2 not charging even after replacing under AppleCare

Is the AirPods Pro 2 charging case flawed or defective? My left AirPod was not charging so I had both the case and the AirPods replaced under AppleCare. However, now with the replacements the left AirPod is once again not charging consistently. There is no dust or dirt in the AirPods case blocking the connection. It is as if the case has a design flaw where the connector does not make contact consistently.
