Company managed iPhone

I have a company managed iPhone 14 which uses my own personal Apple ID, and currently this phone contains business and personal apps. I also have a MacBook using the same ID.

I am getting a new iPhone 15 which I want to use as my personal phone, and then use the iPhone 14 as only my business phone with only business related apps.

If I add the new iPhone 15 to my Apple ID will have any problems with the company management on the new phone? The business management system won’t be transferred to the new phone will it?

You should be good as long as you don't set it up from the backup of the company phone. MDM is embedded into backups of enrolled devices for security.

You’re safe — the company management profile will NOT transfer to your new iPhone 15 as long as the company does not enroll it through their MDM.

But you must set up the phones in the right order to avoid mixing personal + work data.

You’ll want to use a company-specific or company-provided Apple Account, and not your own Apple Account.

Sharing your Apple Account with your employer and with a managed device can cause problems, yes.

I have now signed out of my Apple ID on the business phone and it is no longer showing as a device associated with the Apple ID on my MacBook.

When my new personal phone comes on Thursday I will sign in to the Apple ID on it and install APPS manually.

Hopefully that would work without issue.

What is MDM?

The only APPS that will remain on the work phone will be Outlook, teams, excel etc. Then when setting up my new phone I will manually install all my personal apps one at a time, and once installed I will delete them from the work phone.

I have just checked VPN and Device Management settings and it lists these as the only company managed apps.
