I am using a Lumix camera and have inserted the SD card into my macbook air - however the images wont import to photos?

What is the exact model of your Panasonic Lumix camera?
What is the format of the photos you're trying to import, i.e. jpeg or RAW and if RAW is there more than one RAW?
My M1 MacAir doesn't have an SD slot-- I hadn't realized they had come with one! I have a MacBook that does have an SD slot, and I use it all the time with the card from my Nikon.
If you haven't, you should reboot the Mac and try again. You could also try re-booting in Safe Mode to see if that works:

The problem could be with the format of the SD card--is it new, or has it not been used with a computer in a long time? The best troubleshooting step would be to try another SD card if you have one or can borrow one. That would tell you if it was the card or the Mac. You could also try an SD card reader to see if that works. For my MacAir and my iPad, I've used one of these that I got from Amazon for $17. It might be worth it as an alternative.
This one is tiny, and it doesn't have wires that can wear. I keep one in my camera bag.
