Unable to add AirPods (3rd generation) to Find My

My AirPods third generation will not add to my Find My app.

When I try to add my AirPods to the app, it locates them and allows me to name them and assign an emoji to the AirPods, but during the finishing up process, it states that they need to be nearby and couldn’t finish. How do I connect them to Find My?

I have soft reset the AirPods, I have verified that they are linked to my Apple ID through the Find My set up. However, under the AirPod settings I’m not given the option to turn on the Find My. I have the iPhone 16 Max.
