Bookmarks changed after macOS Sequoia update

I upgraded to OS Sequoia 15.7.2 on my MacBook Pro. Has there been a change in the Bookmark format? It looks very different.

yes. a safari update was included in the sequoia upgrade as a seperate update. but it was only installed if you agreed to it. likely unknowingly.

a lot was changed, mostly with the safari sidebar. there is an easy menu to fix it for Tahoe. but if you cannot (or don't want to) upgrade to Tahoe, you still have a couple options.

the first option, you can lay a new sequoia install over the old one without completely erasing and reinstalling sequoia. afterwards, you will have sequoia with safari 18.6.

and the other option, you may want to look at 6x6's reply in this discussion. if you are comfortable using terminal, their suggestion fixes things for those of us on sequoia with safari 26.0.1.

please note, if you are going to try the terminal commands, you need to grant terminal full disk access. go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access to do so.

Jeffrey...thank you for your quick reply. It was most helpful. I did not want to install the separate update. I have tried working with the new Bookmark. It's awful. As long as long as it does erase all my data/info and existing apps. I would like to try 6X6 fix. I am an amateur at this. How would I do that safely without messing up my system? What does he mean "Execute the following 2 commands." I opened Terminal...do I click on New Command? Then type in the two commands he posted? Please advise.

Thank you,

Bill

once you open terminal, you just need to copy and paste the commands from 6x6' reply into terminal. do each command one at a time. you could type in the commands if you wish, but terminal can be unforgiving. copy and paste removes a potential typographical error.
