I have about 1200 different persons labeled in the Photo app. Earlier it was possible to sort the persons in alphabetical order for easy retrieval of related pictures. Now in macOS Tahoe version 26.1 I can not find this function any more and it is impossible to browse for the correct pictures.
Can this function come back? Any other way to solve this?

Yes, there used to be a Sort option for the People&Pets album in the contextual menu.
Now "View > Sort" is only showing a dimmed "Oldest first".
We can still drag the People and Pets manually into the order we want. But very, very careful so we do not accidentally drop a person onto another person's album and merge them. This is rather tricky with more than thousand named people in the albums and a very long way to drag the items.
You may want to send a feature request to Apple. As it is now, the People album is less useful when we have to find the person we are looking for in an unsorted list of thousands of people.
