is Google reading my emails

I have my gmail emails set up on my Apple mail, in addition to my iCloud, and AOL emails. I set up mailboxes within each email account to keep organized. I also use gmail for my apple id. I read recently that Google can read all my emails on my 3 Apple devices. Is this true? Is it possible? All devices are up to date.

I selected iphone below because only one device was allowed to be chosen for this question.

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 18

To be clear, it is not the case that you have them added to Mail on your iPhone or Apple device that would allow Google to read your emails. They could read them on their own servers where they are stored, not because they are on your device. Mail simply syncs that data that Google has on their servers to your device.

Google has been caught previously reading their users emails, but claim they no longer do that. It is up to you if you believe them and you can follow up with Google for additional information. The use of a Google account is totally up to you and nothing to do with Apple.
