Wrong Email address saved in contact

There is an incorrect email address in one of my contacts. When I go to Edit to remove, the incorrect email address does not appear. How do I delete the incorrect address. I've tried deleting the contact completely and reentering, but every time the strange email address reappears. I cannot find this address in any of my linked contact lists.
