since updating to Mac os 26.0.1 my M4 mac mini sometimes cant wake from sleep without restarting - if I manually sleep it usually wakes but if I just walk away it often but not always won't wake up with touching any keys, mouse etc

I wholeheartedly agree with den.thed on no sleeping. There have been so many issues with sleeping with the recent systems that I don't sleep my M4 Mini. I have the screensaver kick in and then go black after a set time. I shut down the Mini at night and when I leave the building (yes, Elvis has left the building). It only takes about 15 seconds to boot up that shutting down is not an inconvenience.

Turn On "Prevent automatic sleeping when the display is off" in the Energy settings.
Only allow the display(s) to turn off when you walk away and Sleep from the drop down menu at the end of the day.
