apple refund to an old giftcard

I refunded my apple MacBook Pro m5.

I bought the laptop using a gift card and payed some money with my credit card. Now I wonder if the money will be refunded to a new gift card thru mail, or if the money will be refunded to the gift card used to make the initial purchase. I bought the laptop online and returned the laptop in an Apple Store.

I know the money spent using the credit card will be payed back to the card, but I wonder about the rest.
