I upgraded to Tahoe 26.0.1 a couple of days ago and this morning I opened Photos. The album I created years ago and have used regularly is no longer listed in the Photos application. I do not have Time Machine backup available.

Tahoe 26.2. I also opened Photos and found no Albums. Shared Albums were there. The Albums showed on my iPhone (sigh of relief). I logged into iCloud.com and confirmed the Albums were present. Then I re-opened Photos on the Macbook and the Albums are there.

Album lists arrive separately from pictures. Sometimes you just have to wait awhile.
I just realized the original post did not mention iCloud, so my experience may not be relevant. Sorry if that's the case.
