cant change width of mail columns under Tahoe

I upgraded my MB Pro (laptop) last night. My normal view when using mail is to see 3 columns. The leftmost shows my mailboxes, VIPs, Drafts, etc. The second column shows the messages, giving you information on each message, and letting you choose which to view. Finally, the third column contains the mail message itself. In the past, I had some control over the width of these columns, but this morning, I don't have that ability under Tahoe. The middle column is painfully narrow: I can't even see who the message is from, but only the first 2 or three characters of their name.

What steps do I need to take to widen that middle column under Tahoe? As is, this is a HUGE step backwards for Apple mail's utility to me.

Any thoughts/help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hold the cursor over the dividing line, it will change to an adjustment icon. When you see that, click and drag the column line.

Quit the Mail.app and relaunch it holding the Shift key down and compare your results.

Thank you for the reply.

Yes, that's what is supposed to happen (been using that for years.) The good news is that I went back to my laptop about an hour ago, and this time, it worked as it should have. I've NO idea why it wasn't allowing me to do it after I upgraded to Tahoe, but while it was NOT working earlier today, it is now, and I don't think I've done anything to enable the feature. I guess it will just go down as one of those oddities.

Again, thank you for the reply: I appreciate it, and apologize for eating up your (and anybody else who read my post) time.
