Apple Pencil keeps disconnecting from my iPad Air

It seems that my apple pencil keeps disconnecting from my iPad Air once it decreases to 60% battery as well as the double tap feature not working anymore. I got the iPad and pencil refurbished in September 2023. I have tried forgetting the pencil and reconnecting the bluetooth, restarting my iPad, and updating it to iPadOS26 but the issues are still present. The pencil has a small hole most likely from dropping the pencil from my bed and I assume the issues stem from this. I’ve never had any issues in the past til last week and didn’t notice the dent until someone pointed it out 2 weeks ago (I didn’t use the pencil 2 weeks ago because I was busy with school). These issues are extremely frustrating when I am drawing. Is there any possible way to fix these issues or do I need to purchase a new pencil?

Apple support / repair:

  • Since your pencil was refurbished, check if it’s still covered under Apple’s limited warranty or AppleCare (if you purchased it).
  • Apple may replace it for a fee even if the warranty has expired, though physical damage is usually considered accidental.

Replacement:

  • If the Apple Store or support confirms hardware damage, purchasing a new Apple Pencil is the most reliable solution.
  • Unfortunately, small dents like yours usually lead to permanent issues, especially if the battery or double-tap sensor is damaged.

Unfortunately, there are no reliable DIY fixes for hardware damage inside the Apple Pencil. Some people have had temporary luck with:

  • Fully discharging and recharging the pencil. Sometimes this resets battery sensors, but it’s rarely permanent with physical damage.
  • Cleaning the connector (if it’s a 1st-gen pencil with a Lightning connector) and Bluetooth interference checks—but this won’t fix a dented internal battery.
