iOS 26.0.1 mail app only shows old emails

A couple of days after updating iPhone 12 to iOS 26.0.1, I opened the mail app and only mail from 2022 is displayed in the INBOX. I refreshed and rebooted the phone. I sent test messages. At one point I could see the app was downloading from the server and current messages were displayed, but not all of them. Then - while sharing screens with an Apple representative, right before our eyes the screen refreshed and again only 2022 emails were displayed in the inbox. This happened twice. It makes no difference if I leave the mail app open or close it. This is only on the iPhone. Mail is fine on iPad which was not updated to 26.0.1 and on a mac book pro. I also contacted my ISP just in case. I can log in to mail directly and there are no issues on the server. Oh, and sent mail is updated and shows messages sent from my other devices.

The Apple representative is reporting the issue, but basically I have to wait for the next update?!

p.s. 26.0.1 also caused the phone to lose connectivity with my cellular carrier. Apple ran diagnostics and saw no issue. The only solution was to contact the carrier and get the SIM updated. It worked, but come on.
