I have recently updated to the new IOS26 and now whenever I open the Photos app it crashes. Any ideas on fixes?

Try a force restart. Press and very quickly release the volume up button, press and very quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the side button for about twenty seconds, continuing to hold it even when the slider to shut down your phone appears. Eventually the screen will go black and the Apple logo will appear, you can release the button then. The timing is a little tricky, so try it a few times.

I have the same problem on an iPhone 14 Pro Max on iOS 26.0.1 with plenty of storage space available (still around 256 Gb available).
The force restart trick does not work for me.
