Trying to recover hard drive data from Mac mini

My Father has early dementia and can’t remember his Mac Mini password. All of our family’s financial information is trapped on the hard drive making it impossible for us to settle his estate. Any recommendations for a password generator that normally a hacker might use to brute force their way into his local hard drive?

No, a brute force attack could cause an activation lock or worse damage the data.

Start off with attempting to reset the Password.

If that doesn't help. Another option if you have POA, is to request access.
