How do I connect an external monitor to an iMac 24" running macOS Sonoma?

I have a 2021 iMac with Sonoma OS. I need to connect a monitor. The monitor is physically connected but I am unable to get content over to it. There doesn't appear to be a display option as indicated or at least I can't find it.
