Screen turning grey while recording video content from a browser.

I am a media teacher and I often record snippits of a tv show or film to use in class as to how camera, sound, acting etc has been used to show to my students. While trying to record a snippit of a show the screen capture was grey while using Quicktime. Why is this happening? How can I fix it please?

which browser are you using? I have had issues in the past where trying to record things using safari. once in a while, when trying to record safari using QT, I get audio but the video is blacked out. whenever I encounter that, I simply switch over to Firefox. then I can record that same video without issue.

I’m sure DRM is covered in the media curriculum … right? Well, that is what is happening.

The USA has outlawed methods to circumvent DRM measures and discussing how to do so. It would get Apple in trouble to allow discussing that here on their site. So stick to non-DRM (copies of) content.
