Unable to install macOS Sequoia update 15.4 on my MacBook Pro

Experiencing an issue with installing the macOS Sequoia 15.4 (24E248) software update. Chip: Apple M1 Pro.

The internet connection and power are stable, and I have rebooted the system multiple times, but the issue persists.

Tried updating both via the GUI and CLI:

CLI: Prompts for a password, then exits without any error, even when using the --verbose flag.

GUI: Asks for authentication twice, then returns an error without providing any additional details.

We've been facing this at my workplace. I spent some time testing things and the one thing that actually ended up working is running the following script:

sudo softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 15.4 --launch-installer -R

Pretty much pulls the full installer for 15.4 and will download it to your Mac. It should auto launch the installer after (Don't worry it will not wipe the device). If it doesn't auto launch the installer should be in the applications folder in finder.

An Apple Apple Authorised Enterprise Reseller has successfully installed Sequoia 15.4 on my Studio M1 after several attempts... but after resetting the account password, I couldn't login any more: the new password was rejected, as well as the one they had set.

I found at Unable to install macOS Sequoia update 15… - Apple Community that updating the machine's firmware in DFU mode could help.

I've tried to update my Studio M1 firmare along the lines in How to revive or restore Mac firmware - Apple Support

But both the 'Revive Mac...' and 'Restore Mac...' buttons fail at each attempt with this message: The Mac "Mac" could not be updated because the firmware file was corrupt.

Disconnect and reconnect, then try again.

Apple, please help us get out of this quite annoying situation!

It's now a week my machine is unusable...

facing the same issue on my Man Mini m1 too.

I was trying to upgrade system installed on external ssd from 14.7 (or 14.x, not sure cause i just erased it and reinstall the whole OS)

After the failure, always got message like "your Mac restarted because of a problem" while restart and reinstall OS by safe mode did not work for me.

AND i can't run any command installed by brew like, mysql or git. error message be like:

anyway, i just format the external ssd and reinstall 14.7.5

DO NOT UPDATE THIS VERSION!

Your system was updated to 15.4 but it does not work. But for the sonoma installer it looks as you ´re trying to install an older version (sonoma) over the newer version of Mac OS (sequoia).

in my case i had to completely reset my imac, erase the disk and only after that was able to reinstall macOS Sonoma. Luckily i had regular tie machine backups.

sorry but i found no other way to solve this issue

Update..... I finally was able to install 15.4.1 on to an external drive... !! :-) Here is how I did the install onto an external drive... I put the Sequoia 15.4.1 installer onto my emergency disk which had Sequoia 15.3.2 -- . and ran the installer from there..it worked fine.. Migrated all my info from Internal disk which is still running Sonoma 14.7.5 .. I have not yet updated the internal drive ....not sure whether to clone the external drive? or try and run the update again on internal drive?

NOTE: BUT _ I still cannot update the 15.3.2 on my emergency disk to 15.4.1.???

I've already tried downloading a full version of 15.4. I get a pop up window saying there was a problem with the update. it only tells me to ignore or report. WTH is going on?

You haven't said how it should be.. enabled or disabled :)

Interesting observation and a valid question

Under normal and regular conditions it should be ON

In a special circumstance, a person may need to turn it Off Temporarily and Turn it ON again

The funny thing is that if you click 'download,' MacOs shows 15.4 in the process of downloading, but I'm not sure if I want to do a full re-installation on a corporate-managed machine. Will it preserve all of my files and settings? I just wanted to update as usual, but it constantly gives me that error. I have no clue how to fix it. ( I tried literally everything.)
